Painting is Rewarding Again, Dr. Maloney

(received by email)
For Dr. Robert Maloney from the Maloney Vision Institute in LA - I wanted to thank you for allowing me to see the beauty of the world with my own eyes.

I have been painting for most of my adult life, as well as a kid, during many classes in school. One of my favorite subjects is the human body, working with live models to create works using a variety of techniques, but especially pencils and watercolors. I was always fascinated by anatomy and found the human body to be remarkable. Transferring these feelings through my paintings, I gathered an audience who seems to appreciate my work.

I noticed vision problems a while ago and started to wear eyeglasses when needed. The problem was that everything looks different, distorted, through glasses, if compared with the naked eye. I could not accept the idea of having the sky “framed” by my glasses, and I felt that my art is not as accurate and captivating as it used to be. I began to look into having a Lasik surgery at the beginning of 2008, and after meeting with you and discussing my situation, decided to have a PRK procedure at the Maloney Vision Institute.

It have been 7 weeks since I had the surgery, and my eyesight is back to normal. I don’t need to uses glasses any more, and just looking out from the window makes me happy. Sunrises, Sunsets, the city at night, the ocean, and of course people, all look crisp, lively and very inspiring. I’m planning to have a new exhibit in January and you will be invited, of course!

Thank you again Dr. Maloney, and please thank your staff as well.

God bless you,

Mark S.

Dr. Robert Maloney Calmed Me Down

(received from a blog reader)

Hi,

I was treated by Dr. Robert Maloney three and a half years ago, and searched for his name when I found this website. I wanted to add my personal story to the nice collection you gathered.

I used contact lenses for at least five years, since they were a better alternative to eyeglasses. During this period, I had a couple of infections, which luckily were treated and cured quickly and did not result in any chronic problem. At the same time, I was thinking that the risk of having an eye infection is greater than having a lasik operation I read online about the procedure and found that within the years the laser machines used for lasik have improved and the results are getting better.

One of the main recommendations that repeatedly showed up in articles was to find a good, experienced surgeon. I live in Santa Monica and I asked friends and family members to find out who is considered the top lasik expert in our area. They gave me a few names and I went and met all of them for an initial consultation.

The thing that I liked about Dr. Robert Maloney was his eye-level personal approach. He was friendly and confident, and I was reassured when I saw his office, his assistants and the technologies he uses. The operation was quick and Dr. Maloney spoke to me throughout, explaining what is done in each stage.

I am very pleased with the results - I don’t need to use contacts/glasses any longer and although the initial excitement over it subsides over time, I still thank Dr. Maloney for improving my appearance and saving me the time and troubles of using contact lenses.

Best Regards,

Jeremy T.

As Enjoyable As Vising A Spa…

Dear Dr. Maloney and Staff:

I would like to thank you for restoring my vision to 20/20 and for making the experience as enjoyable as a visit to the spa.

Perhaps I am a rarity, but I would actually describe my laser procedure as fun. Being in the biotech and medtech business, I get a kick out of interesting technologies, and, having been involved in a very peripheral sense with a wavefront sensing start-up some years ago, it was really “neat” to experience this technology as a patient.

I will add that the overall patient experience that you provided was top-flight—comparable to a five-star hotel.

Sincerely,

William L. R.

San Gabrial Valley Tribune Published a Testimonial by One of Maloney Vision Institute’s Patients

Last weekend, there was a story in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, which was titled “La Verne woman has sight restored by new surgery” (click on the link to read the full text).

The article discusses how Dr. Devgan helped an extremely near sighted woman to restore her vision, which quickly deteriorated when she became pregnant. You can also find on the page a video which describes the process that Veronica Lopez went through, as well as her experience being treated by the doctor.

Now, after surgery, she discovers new things every day: “My husband is more handsome that I have ever seen”.

Need Reading Glasses? Welcome to Middle Age

The New York Times had an article about how people who can’t see as well as they did when they were younger are choosing to buy over-the-counter prescription glasses. In the article, Dr. Robert Maloney is quoted, explaining the reading glasses can work well for people who experience certain loss of vision, which is similar in both eyes. Contrary to common beliefs, using reading glasses will not adversly affect eyesight.

I can’t sing your praises loud enough

(taken from a patient’s thank you letter)

Dear Dr. Robert Maloney,

My husband and I want to thank you for the excellent care that we received from you and your office staff. From the people at the reception desk to your assistants and to your oprating room assistant, we could not have asked for a better team to treat our eyes. Whenever I called or asked for an appointment, I was remembered and was answered propmtly.

You have been patient with us and were willing to spend time with us listening to our fears and concerns. I can’t sing your praises loud enough. I recommended you to all of our friends and will be mentioning you in an upcoming health and beauty event we are planning to have in our house next month. You are invited!

Sincerely,

Beth.

How Dr. Maloney Helped Me

(taken from an email message)

I wanted to thank Dr. Robert Maloney for operating on my eyes. I have been suffering from short sightedness for many years and was looking for a way to decrease my eyeglasses prescription.

My situation is called “Myopia” - I used to see things clearly only when I held them in front of my eyes, maybe 10-20 inches from my face. Everything that was located further away from me was blurred without eyeglasses, or somehow better if I used glasses.

As an engineer, this has been vey frustrating and I was considering doing Lasik for a long time. Dr. Maloney was very nice and responsive, and the results are beyond expectations. My vision has improved dramatically.

Please pass this to Dr. Maloney.

Best Regards,

Danny P.

Personal Note to Dr. Maloney

Dear Dr. Maloney,

I’m writing to you to express my gratitude for the change you made in my son’s life. As a mother, it feels great to know that he now sees 20/20 without glasses. John used to complain of headaches when he extensively used contacts. He hated wearing eyeglasses. Now he doesn’t need both of them, and his self confience has improved. We will recommend you to anyone we know!

Thank you message

Hi Dr. Maloney,

I wanted to personally thank you for doing Lasik on me. I have been planning to do this for at least 5 years, and finally had decided to have Lasik after meeting with your team. I felt that I can trust you and was impressed by the technology and the celebrities that were your patients. I also read through your book and thought that it clarifies the process and eliviates some of the fears associated with doing an eye surgery. You and your staff were nice and professional suring the surgery - it was so quick I could not believe it! I’m very pleased with the results, you are the best.

Yours,

Nareena J.

Dr. Maloney is quoted in the WSJ

Dr. Robert Maloney was quoted in a Wall Street Journal article from July 15, 2008, which discussed a new trend - wearing non-perscription eyeglasses as a fashion statement.

Here is a short quote (read the full article here):

Los Angeles eye surgeon Robert Maloney was shocked when he bumped into a former patient who was wearing glasses. “I was horrified,” says Maloney, who had performed Lasik surgery on the man to correct his farsightedness. “I went up to him gingerly and asked, ‘Is everything OK?’ “. The patient, Steve Wallace, says, yes, his vision is fine — he just likes wearing glasses. “It’s a fashion statement,” says the 66-year-old owner of Wally’s, a Los Angeles wine store. “It’s my signature.” People “come up to me and ask, ‘Where did you get your glasses?’ ”
